Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Ticats new jersey stays the same and that’s a good thing

Meet Hamilton’s new jerseys, same as the old ones… basically.

Instead of a wholesale re-design like in 2012 — the last time the CFL did league-wide jersey changes — the Ticats instead opted for some minor alterations to their 2012-2015 uniforms, as 3DownNation editor Drew Edwards has covered.

The lack of change was a smart choice by the team. The Ticats uniforms underwent a rather massive change in 2012, so to alter them more so in 2016 would have been unnecessary. Also, Hamilton is considered to have one of the better-looking jerseys from the 2012 re-design, so by keeping things the same, they maintain their top-of-the-heap status.

There also was not any desire to see the Ticats make big changes. Unlike in Winnipeg, where fans were clamouring for a return to their classic royal blue look, there was a decided lack of desire amongst the Ticats faithful to see the team make any changes. There was no begging to go back to an old look or to modernize what they already had. The Ticats did a good job by essentially maintaining the status quo. In fact, it is doubtful that most people would even spot the differences unless told about them. (Full disclosure: It took me a couple of looks to notice what changed.)

Change can be good, but sometimes the best decision to make is sticking with what you have. The Ticats did that and their fans are happier for it.

Josh Smith has been writing about the Ticats and the CFL since 2010 and was sporting his beard way before it was cool. Will be long after, too.
