Stampeders sign former Redblacks’ LB Shaheed Salmon following USFL stint

The Calgary Stampeders have signed veteran American linebacker Shaheed Salmon.

The six-foot-one, 224-pound defender was a member of the Ottawa Redblacks from 2019 to 2022 and made 27 defensive tackles, one tackle for loss, 27 special teams tackles, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and one pass knockdown over 35 career CFL games.

The 27-year-old spent this past season with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL and recorded 17 tackles over eight games. He was later drafted by the Memphis Showboats when the USFL and XFL merged to form the UFL.

The native of Savannah, Ga. had a stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going unselected in the 2018 NFL Draft and also spent time with the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football.

In college, Salmon made 275 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and four interceptions at Samford University in Homewood, Ala. He was named first-team All-Southern Conference as a junior and senior.
