Toronto Argonauts sign Canadian LB Fraser Sopik

The Toronto Argonauts have signed Canadian linebacker Fraser Sopik.

The 26-year-old spent this past season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and made two defensive tackles, nine special teams tackles, and one fumble recovery over 12 regular season games.

The six-foot, 209-pound defender was originally a fourth-round pick in the 2019 CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders out of Western University. He has recorded 33 defensive tackles, 39 special teams tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 59 career CFL games.

Sopik made 212 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two blocked kicks over 39 collegiate games for the Mustangs. He won the Vanier Cup in 2017 and won the Presidents’ Trophy as the top stand-up defensive player in all of U Sports in 2018.

Toronto will open their 2024 regular season on Sunday, June 9 when they host the B.C. Lions at BMO Field.
