The Calgary Stampeders have agreed to terms with American quarterback Matthew Shiltz and, barring anything unforeseen, he’s expected to sign with the team, per sources.

The six-foot-two, 205-pound passer started three games with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this past season, posting a 2-1 record. He completed 67.1 percent of his passes for a career-high 1,556 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions.

The 31-year-old has completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 4,357 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions over 78 career games as a member of the Montreal Alouettes and Ticats. He has also carried the ball 101 times for 625 yards and four touchdowns.

Shiltz was 3DownNation’s fourth-ranked pending free agent quarterback.

Pending free agents can negotiate with teams across the league during the current window, which closes on Feb. 11. Players can agree to terms on a contract with a particular team for 2024, however, these deals aren’t legally binding and can’t be finalized or made official until after free agency opens on Feb. 13.

The Stampeders will open the 2024 regular season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McMahon Stadium.
