Hoosier daddy: Alouettes sign powerhouse Indiana RB Stevie Scott III following USFL stint

The Montreal Alouettes have signed American running back Stevie Scott III to their training camp roster.

The six-foot-two, 231-pound back played three seasons at the University of Indiana, setting new school records for a true freshman in 2018 after he rushed 1,137 yards and 10 touchdowns. In 31 career games for the Hoosiers, he tallied 562 carries for 2,543 yards and 30 touchdowns while adding 55 receptions for 383 yards and two more scores. He was a three-time All-Big Ten selection, earning honourable mention status in 2018 and second-team honours in each of the next two seasons.

Scott went unselected in the 2021 NFL Draft, spending time with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent. He joined the USFL’s Michigan Panthers the following season and would spend two years with the team, notching 177 carries for 605 yards and four touchdowns to go along with 16 receptions for 147 yards.

The 23-year-old would earn NFL opportunities following each season in Michigan, attending training camp with Denver in 2022 and the Arizona Cardinals in 2023. He most recently signed with the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas before the merger of the two spring leagues.

Montreal is set to open their 2024 campaign on Thursday, June 6 in a Grey Cup rematch against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
