Former CFL punter Burke Dales dead at 46

Former CFL punter Burke Dales has passed away at the age of 46. The news was first reported by Ian Busby of Calgary City News.

The Collingwood, ONT product played nine seasons in the CFL from 2002 to 2013, suiting up for the Montreal Alouettes, Edmonton Football Team and most notably the Calgary Stampeders where he was part of the team’s 2008 Grey Cup winning squad.

“Burke excelled during his career with the Stampeders and he brought an uncommon level of competitiveness to his position,” said team president John Hufnagel. “We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

Dales punted for over 37,000 yards and finished his CFL career with a 45.7 yard average. He was a CFL West Division All-Star in 2006, 2009, 2010, and 2011 while earning the league All-Star nod twice in 2010 and 2011.

Dales attended Concordia University and took part in the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp in 2002.
