The Montreal Alouettes have signed American linebacker Tyrice Beverette to a two-year extension that will keep him with the club through 2025.
The six-foot, 203-pound defender was named an East Division all-star in 2023, taking home the Alouettes’ team nomination for Most Outstanding Defensive Player in his second season with the club. In 18 games, he amassed 89 defensive tackles, 20 special teams tackles, seven sacks, and four fumble recoveries, two of which he returned for touchdowns.
“We just secured a very important piece of our defensive squad. The fact that Beverette will be with us for several years shows how much he believes in our team,” Alouettes’ general manager Danny Maciocia said in a statement. “He was so successful with us in 2023, I feel he is still hungry and that is very encouraging.”
Beverette arrived in Montreal ahead of the 2022 season via free agency and became an instant impact starter. The Stony Brook product had spent the previous two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, carving out a role mostly on special teams. In 58 career CFL games between the two organizations, he has notched 161 defensive tackles, 68 special teams tackles, eight sacks and an interception.
The Alouettes will begin the defence of their Grey Cup title when they visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday, June 6.
