Calgary Stampeders re-sign big-bodied QB Tommy Stevens

The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed American quarterback Tommy Stevens. As per 3DownNation reporter John Hodge, it’s a one-year extension through 2024.

The six-foot-five, 256-pound passer has served as the short-yardage quarterback in Cowtown for the past two seasons, recording 100 carries for 448 yards and 15 touchdowns in 36 career games. He has also completed 10-of-18 pass attempts for 58 yards and one touchdown.

The 27-year-old was a seventh-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent time with the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants prior to coming north, recording four carries for 24 yards and the Panthers.

The native of Indianapolis started nine games at Mississippi State as a senior, completing 97-of-161 pass attempts for 1,155 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also ran the ball 83 times for 381 yards and four touchdowns.

Stevens previously played at Penn State where he threw for 304 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception over 20 games with the Nittany Lions. He also recorded 76 carries for 506 yards and eight touchdowns along with 14 catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns.
