Calgary Stampeders bring back QB Chris Reynolds, one other

The Calgary Stampeders have signed American quarterback Chris Reynolds and American offensive linemen Brandon Weldon. Both players finished this past season on the team’s practice roster, making them free agents.

The five-foot-eleven, 196-pound passer saw action in one regular season game for the Stampeders in 2023, completing one-of-two pass attempts for five yards. He also played in the preseason, completing 16-of-21 pass attempts for 181 yards and one touchdown along with four carries for seven yards.

The 25-year-old threw for 10,266 yards, 84 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions over 46 collegiate games at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He broke a number of the 49ers’ records, including career passing yards and passing touchdowns as well as single-season passing yards and passing touchdowns. He also rushed 375 times for 887 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Weldon played three games for Calgary in 2023, making three starts at left tackle. The six-foot-two, 306-pound blocker previously played 48 games at Sacramento State and was named first-team all-Big Sky Conference in 2022.
