Canadian-American quarterback Brett Rypien will make his first start for the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday after veteran Matthew Stafford was ruled out with an injured right thumb.

The nephew of Calgary native and Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien signed with the Rams in May following a four-year run with the Denver Broncos. He was placed on the practice roster after training camp, before being elevated in Week 2 after rookie Stetson Bennett was placed on the non-football injury list.

Rypien started three games in Denver and has thrown for 820 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions over nine career regular season contests.
