RB William Stanback left out of unchanged Alouettes lineup vs. Elks

The Montreal Alouettes have made no roster changes ahead of their matchup with the Edmonton Elks on Saturday, despite the reported availability of running back William Stanback.

Stanback sat out Monday’s win over the Ottawa Redblacks due to illness but was a full participant in practice on Thursday and carried no injury designation heading into roster selection. However, he was left off the roster in favour of backup Walter Fletcher.

The 29-year-old bell-cow has carried 140 times for 752 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games this season while also catching 25 passes for 228 yards and another score. He is on pace to record the second-lowest yards per carry mark of his career (5.4), which exceeds only the 2022 season in which he played just five games due to injury.

Fletcher has 338 all-purpose yards in six games this season, though he is averaging just four yards per carry.

Montreal’s depth chart featured no other surprises, as receiver Kaion Julien-Grant (shoulder), kicker David Cote (hip), safety Zack Lindley (head), and linebackers Avery Williams (thigh), Tyrell Richards, and Bryce Notree (shoulder) remain on the one-game injured list.

Still out long-term on the six-game injured list are receivers Greg Ellingson, Reggie White Jr., Quartney Davis, and Keshunn Abrams; offensive linemen Landon Rice, Sean Jamieson, and David Brown; defensive tackle Marcus Valdez; linebackers Najee Murray and J.R. Reed; defensive backs Nafees Lyon, Kordell Rodgers, and Raheem Wilson; and returner Chandler Worthy.

The Alouettes (9-7) will visit the Elks (4-12) on Saturday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m. EDT. Montreal can secure a home playoff game with a victory or a Hamilton loss the day prior.
