Saskatchewan Roughriders’ DL Christian Albright named CFL’s player of the month by PFF

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ defensive lineman Christian Albright received the highest grade of any offensive or defensive player in the CFL from Pro Football Focus (PFF) for the month of September.

The 24-year-old rookie out of Ball State received a grade of 89.9 as he made four defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, three sacks, and one forced fumble over 82 total defensive snaps. He received a grade of 91.3 on 29 run defence snaps and 76.5 on 53 pass rush snaps.

The honourable mentions behind Albright were Ottawa Redblacks’ defensive lineman Bryce Carter (88.7) and Montreal Alouettes’ defensive back Marc-Antoine Dequoy (84.4).

B.C. Lions’ quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. was the highest-graded offensive player for September, earning a grade of 86.3. He completed 68.2 percent of his passes for 1,354 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions, helping lead the Lions to a 4-0 record. He also carried the ball 21 times for 166 yards along the ground.

The honourable mentions on offence were Ottawa Redblacks’ quarterback Dustin Crum (84.9) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ quarterback Zach Collaros (83.1).

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ offensive line received the highest grade in the league for the month of September, earning a mark of 83.2. Right tackle Jermarcus Hardrick was the best individual performer at 69.4, followed by right guard Patrick Neufeld at 68.2 and centre Chris Kolankowski at 63.3

The CFL partnered with PFF for the first time ahead of the 2023 season. The American company uses game footage to review every player on the field and grades their individual performances on a scale from zero to 100.

The league unveils the top-graded players from PFF each month. Offensive and defensive players must play a minimum of 75 snaps to be eligible and special teams players must play at least 25. Ties are broken by the number of snaps played.
