Los Angeles Rams promote Canadian-American quarterback Brett Rypien to active roster

The Los Angeles Rams have promoted Canadian-American quarterback Brett Rypien to their active roster, according to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero.

The nephew of Calgary native and Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien signed with the Rams in May following a four-year run with the Denver Broncos. He was placed on the practice roster after training camp as Stetson Bennett, who recently led the Georgia Bulldogs to back-to-back National Championships, won the backup job behind Matthew Stafford.

Bennett, a fourth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, has since been placed on the non-football injury. Until he returns, it appears Rypien will be the No. 2 quarterback in L.A.

Rypien started three games in Denver and has thrown for 778 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions over eight career regular season contests.

The 27-year-old was born in Spokane, Wash. but is eligible for dual-citizenship. He was a four-year starter at Boise State where he passed for 13,578 yards, 90 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions and was named first-team all-Mountain West Conference three times.

The Rams opened the regular season with a 30-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks this past weekend. L.A. will host the San Francisco 49ers (1-0) on Sunday, Sept. 17 with kickoff slated for 4:05 p.m. EDT.
