Canadian quarterback Tre Ford made history on Monday night, even if his team squandered a late lead to lose the Labour Day Classic.

According to TSN’s Jon Perlberg, Ford set a new CFL record for single-game rushing yards by a Canadian quarterback with 11 carries for 135 yards. The previous record was held by Canadian Football Hall of Fame inductee and CFL legend Russ Jackson, who rushed for 134 yards with the Ottawa Rough Riders in a 27-3 victory over Saskatchewan on Oct. 6, 1964.

Ford’s performance was also the second-best single-game rushing total by any player this season behind only Dedrick Mills of the Calgary Stampeders, who ran for 137 yards in a 20-7 win over the Toronto Argonauts in Week 9.

Ford has now started the past four games for Edmonton, rushing 31 times for 319 yards and two touchdowns. He currently sits second league-wide in rushing yards by a quarterback behind only Dustin Crum, who has ran for 479 yards over seven starts with Ottawa.

The 25-year-old has also thrown for 817 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception this season, leading Edmonton to a 2-2 record as a starter.

The Elks squandered a 15-point fourth quarter lead to the Calgary Stampeders on Monday, losing the Labour Day Classic by a score of 35-31. The loss snapped Edmonton’s two-game winning streak, dropping the club’s record to 2-10 on the season.
