Saskatchewan Roughriders sell out Labour Day Classic vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have sold out the 58th annual Labour Day Classic with just two days to spare.

A capacity crowd of 33,350 is expected to be in attendance at Mosaic Stadium when the Riders (5-5) host the rival Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-2) on Sunday, September 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

“The atmosphere at Mosaic Stadium on Labour Day is a thrilling, one-of-a-kind experience, and that atmosphere is created by the boisterous cheers of Rider Nation,” Roughriders’ president and CEO Craig Reynolds said in a statement.

“We are excited to have Mosaic Stadium filled to the brim, and I know our players will feed off the energy of our fans when they go head-to-head with the Bombers on Sunday.” 

Saskatchewan is 37-20 all-time in the annual rivalry game dating back to 1949 and recently had a dominant stretch over their prairie foes, winning 11 consecutive meetings from 2005 to 2015. Things haven’t gone as well for the club since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, as Winnipeg has won back-to-back meetings, including a lopsided 23-8 victory in 2021. Last year, the team fell by a narrower margin of 20-18.

The Riders were on a bye this past week and before that recorded a surprise upset victory over the B.C. Lions. Jake Dolegala threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns in his first win as a starter and will again be at the helm on Sunday.

Bombers fans already have bragging rights heading into the game as their club announced a sellout for the Banjo Bowl rematch, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, over a month ago. Saskatchewan has been playing catch-up at the box office and in the standings, where Winnipeg can clinch a playoff spot with a win in the rivalry game.
