B.C. Lions

Still some value among remaining CFL free agents

With the CFL free agent frenzy now over, there are still a number of quality players available – particularly on defence. But the reduced number of Canadians on the market means their value has gone up.

Offence

1. Jeff Fuller, international REC (Calgary): He’s exhausting all possible NFL options at this point. UPDATE: Signed in the NFL.

2. Matt Norman, national OL (B.C.): Started 36 games at centre for the Lions in 2013 and 2014 combined but there are questions about his health. Still, Canadian offensive lineman now at a premium.

3. Chris Getzlaf (pictured), national REC (Saskatchewan): One of the last veteran Canadian receivers on the board.

4. Swayze Waters, international K/P (Toronto): Better on punts and kick-offs when compared to Justin Medlock personnel men say, but he gets hurt too much. Exploring NFL opportunities but he’s last elite kicker left.

5 Natey Adjei, national REC (Toronto): Canadian who’s flashed potential and could breakout in the right system.

6. Joel Figueroa, international OL (Hamilton): On talent alone he could be an NFL tackle, but he simply needs to stay healthy.

7. Chad Owens, international REC/KR (Toronto): Will someone take a flyer on the Flyin’ Hawaiian? UPDATE: Signed in Hamilton.

8. Xavier Fulton, international OL (Saskatchewan): An offensive tackle who could provide starting experience and depth.

9. Giovanni Aprile, national REC (Hamilton): Big, physical Canadian receiver who’s trying to find the proper fit.

10. Thomas DeMarco, international QB (Ottawa): The 27-year-old quarterback hasn’t started many games but not much QB depth left.

Brian Buckle

Defence

1. Aaron Grymes, international DB (Edmonton): Can flat-out play wherever you want to line him up. NFL aspirations are his focus at the moment.

2. Keon Raymond, international LB (Calgary): Plays a tough position (SAM) at a high level and despite his age (33) he continues to produce. UPDATE: Signed in Toronto.

3. Tristan Okpalaugo, international DE (Toronto): American pass rushing force who might be waiting on a possible NFL contract offer (he’s visited with the Cardinals, Raiders and Jets).

4. Emanuel Davis, international DB (Hamilton): Productive, instinctive and brings play-making ability. Getting NFL looks so no decision imminent.

5. Brian Bulcke (pictured), national DL (Hamilton): Solid player but two season-ending injuries in a row (biceps and ACL) means he hasn’t played in a game since September 2014. UPDATE: Signed with Argos.

6. Don Oramasionwu, national DT (Eskimos): Interior Canadian linemen who can provide a steady presence inside.

7. Frederic Plesius, national LB (Hamilton): Demon on special teams. Some feel Plesius could potentially still start at linebacker.

8. Bryan Hall, international DT (Hamilton): Athletic big man has been the yang to Ted Laurent’s ying.

9. Justin Hickman, international DE (Hamilton): Consistent and dependable veteran on the edge.

10. Vincent Agnew, international LB (Toronto): Could be a SAM, WILL or even play safety. He can play multiple positions and he’s a great special teams player.
