The Edmonton Elks have released Canadian fullback Mario Villamizar.

Villamizar originally signed with the Elks on June 26 after being released in training camp by the Toronto Argonauts. He dressed for four games in Edmonton, but did not record a statistic.

The 28-year-old was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2019 CFL Draft by the B.C. Lions and spent his first three seasons with the team. He appeared in 40 games as a Lion, catching two passes for 13 yards and recording four special teams tackles.

The six-foot-three, 237-pound back attended Wilfrid Laurier University, where he won a Yates Cup champion in 2016 and was named a second-team OUA all-star in 2018.

The Elks (0-8) return to action on Thursday, August 10 when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (6-2).
