We’re set for a four-game slate in Week 6 of the Canadian Football League season and below are our predictions for two of those contests.

Week 6 CFL betting odds and picks: Best bets for Toronto vs. Montreal, Winnipeg vs. Ottawa

This week we’ll first focus on a matchup involving the only remaining undefeated team in the league coming off a bye. We’ll then shift our attention to the contest with the biggest spread of the week and see whether or not taking the favourite is a prudent move.

Friday, July 14: Toronto Argonauts at Montreal Alouettes – 7:30 p.m. EDT

The Argos boast the CFL’s lone remaining unblemished record and check into this Friday night battle with a significant advantage over an inconsistent Alouettes team.

Toronto last took the field June 25 prior to a Week 5 bye, while Montreal was just in action Sunday night against the Lions on the road. That’s quite a disparity in every important sense.

The Argos also check in riding high after knocking off the previously undefeated Lions in Week 4 by a score of 45-24.

Quarterback Chad Kelly put forth his best performance of the season in that contest. He completed just under 80 percent of his throws while compiling 274 total yards. The first-year starter is helped by ground game contributions from A.J. Ouellette, who’s embraced his lead back role to average 4.8 yards per carry.

The Als will present a challenge for the Argos defence despite the likelihood of some fatigue. Cody Fajardo has quickly adjusted to his new group of pass catchers spearheaded by Kaion Julien-Grant and Austin Mack.

Toronto isn’t going to pick six passes off again like they did against B.C., so some points should pile up on both sides.

Ultimately, I like the idea of rolling the dice with a parlay that backs the idea of Toronto eventually pulling away from a tired opponent and a fair amount of scoring taking place, all at an excellent price.

The Pick: Same-Game Parlay: Argonauts -5 and Over 48.5 points (+272 or better)

Saturday, July 15: Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Ottawa Redblacks – 4:00 p.m. EDT

Jeremiah Masoli’s rotten luck continued in Week 5 when the veteran quarterback suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in his first game back from a devastating leg injury he suffered exactly one year earlier.

That naturally means Ottawa is resetting under centre yet again. Dustin Crum, who did put together an impressive performance of 240 total yards and a rushing touchdown in relief against the Tiger-Cats, is in line to start Week 6.

Ottawa has also inked Tyrrell Pigrome, who spent the preseason with the Blue Bombers and could therefore provide some solid intel on the team’s offence, and Jake Dunniway, who’s familiar with the Redblacks playbook from his time with Ottawa during the exhibition slate.

However, Crum won’t be catching a team off guard as he did last week. Winnipeg will undoubtedly prepare to face the versatile quarterback and has film with which to do so. The Bombers’ defence has tightened up considerably over the last two games as well, conceding just 14 total points.

On the other side of the ball, the Bombers haven’t been quite as effective on offence as usual. Yet, they’re still putting up an impressive 25 offensive points per game.

Nevertheless, considering all the factors cited, I’m in the camp of a relatively low-scoring first half where Winnipeg does the majority of heavy lifting against an Ottawa squad averaging just 15 offensive points per contest.

The Pick: 1st Half – Under 22 points or higher (-110 or better)
