CFL fines five players following Week 1 action

The CFL has fined five players following Week 1 of the regular season.

Three of the fines came during the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 42-31 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night at IG Field.

Hamilton defensive lineman Mohamed Diallo was fined for unnecessary roughness on Winnipeg offensive lineman Geoff Gray and Hamilton defensive back Carthell Flowers-Lloyd was fined for a low block on special teams. On the flip side, Winnipeg defensive back Brandon Alexander was fined for a high hit on Hamilton receiver Kiondré Smith.

In other action, Ottawa Redblacks’ defensive lineman Bryce Carter was fined for unnecessary roughness on Montreal Alouettes’ quarterback Cody Fajardo. Finally, Edmonton Elks’ defensive back Ed Gainey was fined for a high hit on Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Jake Wieneke.

As per league policy, the amounts of the fines were not disclosed. The maximum possible fine under the league’s collective bargaining agreement is equal to one-half of a player’s game cheque.
