The Toronto Argonauts have unveiled new uniforms for the club’s 150th anniversary that pays tribute to their nautical heritage.

The new home jerseys are almost entirely Cambridge blue, with the exception of dark numbers outlined in white. The pants also have a white stripe along the leg, which is shaped like an oar. This colour scheme is reversed for the away uniform with white jerseys and pants featuring a Cambridge blue stripe.

There are also six oars on each shoulder, which the club indicated was done to represent the 12 players on the field, while the number font was influenced by the Royal Canadian Navy.

“We are looking forward to an exciting season ahead as we celebrate 150 years of Toronto Argonauts football and these new uniforms pay tribute to our history while also creating a modern identity on the field that will bring pride to the team and to each player who wears it,” said general manager Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons in a statement.

“We hope you join us as we take the field in our new uniforms, commemorating a century and a half of Argonaut football as we defend the Grey Cup championship for an 18th time.”

The new uniform is a Pro Force Edge jersey, which features different lines and shape. The mesh and custom laser cut pattern are intended to create a “wave” effect.

Toronto recently unveiled new helmets for this season, which are the traditional shade of Cambridge blue worn by the Argonauts Rowing Club when it founded the club in 1873. Cambridge blue has always been one of the team’s official colours featured on their uniforms but had previously been used as a secondary highlight to the darker Oxford blue.

The Argos are the third CFL team to unveil a new uniform this offseason. The B.C. Lions unveiled a new “blackout” home look and “fog grey” jerseys for the road, while the Calgary Stampeders launched a revamped white and red away uniform while tweaking the rest of their outfits.
