Saskatchewan Roughriders release 10, including OL Kooper Richardson

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released 10 players, including American offensive lineman Kooper Richardson.

The six-foot-five, 295-pound blocker signed with the Riders in May 2022 and started the final six games of the regular season in 2022 at right tackle.

Richardson finished his collegiate career at Sacramento State where he started in all 11 games at right tackle in 2021 and was named second-team All-Big Sky. He originally played at UC Davis where he appeared in 30 games at tackle, guard, and centre over four seasons with the Aggies.

The club’s other cuts included American quarterback Levi Lewis, American receiver Tabashi Thomas, Global defensive lineman Valentin Gnahoua, American defensive linemen David Kenney and Marcus Webb, American linebacker Alvin Jones Jr., Canadian defensive back Jordan Beaulieu, and American defensive backs Julius Faulk and Austin Joyner.

All CFL teams were required to trim their rosters to 75 players plus non-counters by late Tuesday night. A non-counter is any rookie who was drafted or attending training camp as a territorial exemption.

The Riders have also moved Wednesday’s practice indoors to the Saskatoon Soccer Centre due to poor air quality stemming from the ongoing Alberta wildfires.
