Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign three, release one

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed three American players, including running back Vance Barnes, receiver Dominick Fiscelli, and offensive lineman Desmond Bessent.

Barnes recorded 67 carries for 389 yards and three touchdowns as a senior at Northern State University in 2021 along with 21 receptions for 350 yards and five touchdowns. He was also a prolific returner, bringing back 35 kickoffs for 848 yards.

The five-foot-eight, 190-pound ball-carrier played receiver at Minnesota State University prior to his time at Northern State and was also named a second-team All-American as a member of the track and field team.

Fiscelli caught 25 passes for 411 yards and three touchdowns at Northern State University this past season. The native of Sterling Heights, Mich. previously played at Saginaw Valley State University where he made 38 catches for 474 yards and two touchdowns over three years with the Cardinals.

Bessent started 13 games for the University at Buffalo in 2022 and was named third-team All-MAC. The six-foot-seven, 305-pound blocker previously played at San Diego State University where he started two games at left tackle in 2021.

Winnipeg also placed Canadian linebacker Robbie Lowes on their retired list.
