Indianapolis Colts re-sign Canadian OL Carter O’Donnell

The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed Canadian offensive lineman Carter O’Donnell.

The six-foot-five, 305-pound blocker originally joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and spent two seasons on the practice roster, taking practice reps at tackle and guard. He was placed on injured reserve last August after sustaining a season-ending injury in training camp, missing the entire 2022 campaign.

The native of Red Deer, Alta. was named a first-team U Sports All-Canadian as a member of the University of Alberta Golden Bears in 2019. He helped the Green and Gold average 399 yards of total offence and 5.2 yards per rush that season, earning an invitation to the prestigious East-West Shrine Game.

The 24-year-old was a third-round pick of the Montreal Alouettes in the 2020 CFL Draft. He would have been selected much higher — possibly first overall — had he not received such significant interest from the NFL. His CFL rights were traded to the Edmonton Elks last year as part of the deal that sent the first overall pick in the 2022 CFL Draft to Montreal.
