Montreal Alouettes acquire Canadian OL Jesse Gibbon in trade with Edmonton Elks

The Montreal Alouettes have acquired Canadian offensive lineman Jesse Gibbon from the Edmonton Elks in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft.

The six-foot-three, 300-pound blocker was selected with the second overall pick in the 2019 CFL Draft out of the University of Waterloo by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He has played 49 career regular season CFL games and appeared in five postseason contests, including the 2019 and 2021 Grey Cups.

The Hamilton native started four games for the Ticats in 2022 — one at right guard and three at centre — prior to being traded to Edmonton. He started the Elks’ regular season finale at left guard and signed a contract extension with the team through 2024.

“There is a saying in the CFL that you never have enough talented national offensive linemen,” said Alouettes’ general manager Danny Maciocia in a statement. “We are extremely happy to be able to acquire Jesse, who will be joining the excellent group we already have in place.”

Edmonton now holds the No. 13 overall pick in the 2023 CFL Draft. They already held the No. 12 overall pick by way of a previous unrelated trade with Hamilton.
