Edmonton Elks sign former first overall CFL draft pick Josiah St. John

The Edmonton Elks have signed Canadian offensive lineman Josiah St. John to a one-year contract, per sources.

The six-foot-five, 305-pound blocker was the first overall pick in the 2016 CFL Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. Chris Jones, who is now the head coach and general manager of the Elks, served in the same dual role with the Saskatchewan Roughriders when St. John was drafted.

The 30-year-old Toronto native was mostly a depth player with Saskatchewan this past season, though he made three starts at left guard and one start at right tackle.

The Toronto native has dressed for 47 career CFL games, all as a member of the Riders. He spent the 2019 season as a member of the Toronto Argonauts, B.C. Lions, and Elks, though he didn’t dress for any regular season games. He dressed for one postseason game with Edmonton, losing the East Final to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats by a score of 36-16.
