Montreal Alouettes re-sign Canadian receiver Kaion Julien-Grant

The Montreal Alouettes have signed Canadian receiver Kaion Julien-Grant to a two-year contract extension, per league sources. Half of Grant’s salary is guaranteed in the second year of his new deal.

The six-foot-two, 212-pound target was set to become a free agent on Tuesday, Feb. 14 but elected to forgo the open market, returning for two more seasons with the Alouettes.

The Toronto native was a second-round pick in the 2019 CFL Draft out of St. FX and is coming off easily his best CFL season, making 36 catches for 517 yards and three touchdowns over 18 regular season starts at field-side wide receiver.

“This is great news, we are getting a talented receiver and we are enhancing our Canadian talent,” said head coach Jason Maas after the news was confirmed by the team. “Julien-Grant knows our team well and we look forward to seeing him on the field as a major part of our offence.”

Grant was 3DownNation‘s highest-ranked pending free agent Canadian receiver after Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and Nic Demski re-signed with the Toronto Argonauts and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, respectively.
