Take it to the Banks: B.C. Lions re-sign DL Josh Banks through 2024

The B.C. Lions have signed American defensive lineman Josh Banks to a two-year contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday. He was eligible to become a free agent on February 14.

“It’s very exciting to earn the chance to build on what we started last season,” said Banks in a statement. “I’m grateful to this franchise for giving me the opportunity to continue my pro career and to our coaching staff that has done a great job putting us in the position to succeed.”

The six-foot-four, 290-pound defender has spent the past two seasons with the Lions, recording 30 defensive tackles over 30 career games. He made four defensive tackles during B.C.’s postseason run in 2022 that included a victory over Calgary in the West Semi-Final and a loss to Winnipeg in the West Final.

The 28-year-old went unselected in the 2017 NFL Draft before signing with the New York Giants. He spent his rookie season on the reserve/injured list before spending 2018 on the club’s practice roster. He later played for the Orlando Apollos of the AAF and Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL.

The native of Cary, N.C. dressed for 43 games at Wake Forest from 2012 to 2016 and recorded 107 defensive tackles, 17.5 tackles for a loss, five sacks, and one interception.
