Winnipeg Blue Bombers bring back CFL record-holder Mike Miller

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed Canadian fullback Mike Miller to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday. He was scheduled to become a free agent in February.

The six-foot, 221-pounder has spent the past five seasons with the team after joining them as a free agent in 2016. He is the CFL’s all-time leader in special teams tackles with 226 having broken the league’s previous recording in 2021.

The Acadia product led Winnipeg with 16 special teams tackles in 2022 along with one forced fumble. He also made four special teams tackles over two postseason games. He has made 110 special teams tackles since joining the Blue Bombers, which ranks third in club history behind team president and CEO Wade Miller (184) and Brendan Rogers (124).

The 33-year-old led the league in special teams tackles in 2021 with 25, finished second in 2019 with 25, and made 22 in both 2017 and 2018. He was named a West Division all-star in 2019 and 2021 and the West Division’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in those same years.

Miller broke into the CFL in 2011 with the Edmonton Elks as an undrafted free agent.
