The Toronto Argonauts have signed 20-year-old defensive back Qwan’tez Stiggers, the team announced on Wednesday.

The five-foot-eleven, 197-pound defensive back attended B.E.S.T. Academy High School in Atlanta where he played football, basketball, and baseball. In an interview with Shady Sports Network this past summer, Stiggers indicated that he didn’t take school seriously until it was “too late” to earn a scholarship to an NCAA program.

Stiggers played in the Fan Control Football League this past season and was the league’s youngest player. He led the FCF with five interceptions and made 30 tackles and was named a finalist for the league’s defensive player of the year award. He will turn 21 on Jan. 8, 2023.

Toronto has also signed American defensive backs J. T. Hassell and Chris Moore.

Hassell played four games as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this past season after joining the team in September and made two special teams tackles. The five-foot-eleven, 200-pound defender signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and seven tackles over four games before a brief stints with New England and New York Jets in 2020.

Moore recently spent time with the Baltimore Ravens after being signed by the NFL team as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia State. The six-foot, 210-pound defender played 22 games over two seasons at GSU (2020-21) and made 104 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and one forced fumble.
