B.C. Lions release all-star defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy

The B.C. Lions have released veteran defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy, the team announced on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old started all 18 games for B.C. this past season at a number of positions including strong-side linebacker, safety, and boundary halfback. He made 55 defensive tackles, nine special teams tackles, three interceptions, and one sack and was named a CFL all-star at safety.

Purifoy made his CFL debut with the Lions in 2016 following stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks of the NFL. He spent two seasons with the team, dressing for 36 games and recording 100 tackles, five sacks, four interceptions, and four forced fumbles.

The five-foot-eleven, 190-pound defender joined the Ottawa Redblacks as a free agent in February 2018 but was released after playing just seven games with the team. He joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders immediately thereafter and spent the next three years with the club, dressing for 40 games and making 119 tackles, two sacks, eight interceptions, and one forced fumble.

According to 3DownNation reporter John Hodge, Purifoy was due a $30,000 off-season roster bonus on Feb. 15, 2023.
