Saddle up: All-star receiver Reggie Begelton signs two-year extension with the Calgary Stampeders

The Calgary Stampeders have signed all-star receiver Reggie Begelton to a contract extension that will keep him in red and white for the next two seasons.

The 29-year-old finished first on the team with 85 catches, second on the team with 957 yards and six touchdowns, and played in all 18 games for the first time in his career in 2022.

The six-foot, 205-pound pass catcher also led the Stamps in second-down conversion catches with 27 and was named a Canadian Football League Players’ Association all-star for his performance this past season.

The Beaumont, Texas native has played five CFL seasons, all with Calgary, and has amassed 243 catches for 3,326 yards and 19 touchdowns in 53 career games.

Begelton was a league all-star in 2019 after finishing third in receiving yards behind Most Outstanding Player Brandon Banks and the recently retired Bryan Burnham and second in catches and touchdowns. He also became just the fifth Stampeders player to cross the 100-catch mark in a season.

After his breakout 2019 season, Begelton signed with the National Football League’s Green Bay Packers. The Lamar University alum played in one game for the Packers in 2020, recording no stats.

Begelton returned to the Stampeders in November 2021, playing in two regular season games and catching nine passes for 133 yards and one touchdown. He also played in Calgary’s lone playoff game, catching five passes for 105 yards in the Stamps’ 33-30 overtime loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
