The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American defensive back Desmond Lawrence to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Wednesday. He was scheduled to become a free agent in February.

The six-foot-one, 185-pound cover man joined the team in October after he was released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He started one regular season game at field-side cornerback and started the West Final and Grey Cup in the same spot, recording eight tackles, one knockdown, and one interception.

The native of Charlotte, N.C. joined the Ticats in 2021 and was named the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie after making 22 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions over 10 games. He dressed for five games prior to his release in 2022 and recorded four defensive tackles and two special teams tackles.
