Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker works out for Pittsburgh Steelers

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker worked out for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday, per source.

The six-foot-four, 205-pound target made 68 receptions for 960 yards and five touchdowns this past season over 18 starts at wide receiver and slotback. He led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns and was the second-most productive Canadian receiver league-wide behind only Kurleigh Gittens Jr. of the Toronto Argonauts.

The native of Mississauga, Ont. was a fourth-round pick out of the University of Guelph in the 2020 CFL Draft. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, recording 47 catches for 563 yards and two touchdowns over 12 games.

Schaffer-Baker remains under contract for 2023 but is permitted to pursue opportunities south of the border via the league’s NFL window. He is scheduled to become a CFL free agent in February 2024.

Pittsburgh currently sits fourth in the AFC North with a 5-7 record. The club traded Canadian receiver Chase Claypool to the Chicago Bears last month in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has since played five games for the Bears, making 12 catches for 111 yards.

Schaffer-Baker worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars last month.
