Calgary Stampeders sign American quarterback Chase Litton, two others

The Calgary Stampeders have signed a trio of American players, including quarterback Chase Litton, receiver Floyd Allen, and defensive lineman Nik D’Avanzo.

Litton briefly spent time with the Ottawa Redblacks and Winnipeg Blue Bombers over the past two years, though he has yet to dress for a regular season CFL game. The 27-year-old also previously been a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the XFL’s Tampa Bay Vipers.

The six-foot-five, 230-pound passer threw for 8,322 yards, 72 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions over 34 games at Marshall University after originally decomitting from the University of South Florida.

Allen was in training camp with the Stampeders this past year and made one reception for 10 yards in the preseason and returned one missed field goal for 45 yards. The five-foot-ten, 202-pound target split his collegiate years between Ole Miss, El Camino College, and Bethany College. He has previously been a member of the Houston Texans, the XFL’s Dallas Renegades, and the Generals of The Spring League.

D’Avanzo was also in training camp with Calgary this past year and recorded two defensive tackles.

The native of Baltimore, Md. made 196 tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, four fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble over 49 games at the University of New Mexico. He was named second-team All-Mountain West Conference as a senior.

The six-foot-three, 283-pound defender participated in rookie minicamp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017 before spending two seasons with the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. He was named a first-team all-star in both years.
