Edmonton Elks sign Canadian offensive lineman Jesse Gibbon to two-year contract extension

The Edmonton Elks have signed Canadian offensive lineman Jesse Gibbon to a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2024 season.

Edmonton acquired the former first-round pick in a trade from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in September and he has since played five games with the team in a backup role.

The six-foot-five, 300-pound blocker was selected with the second overall pick in the 2019 CFL Draft out of Waterloo. He has played 47 career regular season CFL games and appeared in five postseason contests, including the two most recent Grey Cups. He started four games for the Ticats earlier this season, one at right guard and three at centre.

The Elks also released offensive lineman Dennis Bardwell who signed with the club last month but didn’t see any action.

The Edmonton Elks (4-12) were eliminated from playoff contention this past week following a 48-11 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They will host the Toronto Argonauts (9-6) on Saturday, Oct. 15 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
