Just when you thought the Winnipeg Bue Bombers couldn’t get any better, one of their best defensive players returns to the lineup.

Safety Brandon Alexander is scheduled to make his appearance of the 2022 season on Saturday against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The 28-year-old missed the first two-thirds of the year rehabbing from offseason knee surgery, which repaired an injury suffered in last year’s Grey Cup.

The six-foot, 180-pound defensive back has the best season of his career in 2021, making 36 defensive tackles, eight more on special teams, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 13 starts. He was rewarded by being named a CFL all-star.

Now in his fifth season as a Bomber, Alexander joined the team in 2017 and was the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie that season. He has been a stalwart in the defensive backfield ever since, amassing 162 tackles, six interceptions, including one for a touchdown, and five forced fumbles in 52 career games while winning two Grey Cups.

The Bombers (12-1) are scheduled to take on the Ticats (3-9) at 4:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday in Hamilton.
