Alouettes trade DL Avery Ellis to Elks for DL Thomas Costigan, DB Nafees Lyon

The Montreal Alouettes have traded defensive lineman Avery Ellis and a third-round draft pick to the Edmonton Elks in exchange for defensive lineman Thomas Costigan and defensive back Nafees Lyon, according to TSN’s Dave Naylor.

Ellis signed with the Alouettes as a free agent this past off-season after a four-year stint with the Ottawa Redblacks. He has dressed for nine games this season with seven starts and recorded 17 tackles and three sacks. The 27-year-old has made 146 tackles, 21 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one touchdown over 66 career games.

Costigan has dressed for eleven games with Edmonton this season and made ten starts. He has recorded 17 total tackles and three sacks on the year, just one sack behind Jake Ceresna for the team lead. He dressed for eleven games with the Elks as a rookie in 2021 and made 24 tackles and six sacks.

Lyon has started eight games this season primarily at field-side halfback and recorded 25 tackles, one interception, one sack, and one forced fumble. He played five games as a rookie in 2021 and made 27 tackles and two interceptions.

The Alouettes have also released American running Tavien Feaster.
