Redblacks release defensive starters Randall Evans and Antonio Simmons

The Ottawa Redblacks have released a pair of starters in defensive back Randall Evans and defensive end Antonio Simmons.

Evans has started eight games at boundary halfback this season and recorded 36 defensive tackles and five special teams tackles. He was also a full-time starter at boundary halfback in 2021 and made 70 defensive tackles, 12 special teams tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

The 30-year-old was a sixth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent three years in the league with Eagles and San Diego Chargers before signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was released following one game with the Ticats and signed with the Redblacks in August 2018.

Evans has made 179 defensive tackles, 29 special teams tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles through 46 career CFL games.

Simmons signed with Ottawa in late July following stints with Edmonton and Montreal and made five tackles in two starts. He made 68 defensive tackles, six sacks, and one forced fumble over 32 career CFL games.

The Redblacks (1-8) are scheduled to visit the Edmonton Elks (3-7) on Saturday, Aug. 27 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
