The Calgary Stampeders will be without star defensive back Tre Roberson for the rest of the regular season after he underwent surgery on his knee. Head coach Dave Dickenson broke the news on his weekly show on 770 CHQR radio in Calgary.

The injury took place during the club’s 35-28 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Week 8. The former all-star was placed on the six-game injured list ahead of Calgary’s 17-3 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks this past week.

Roberson started five games at boundary cornerback this season, recording 17 defensive tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble. He missed the team’s 30-23 victory over the Edmonton Elks in Week 3 due to a shoulder injury.

The 29-year-old was named a CFL all-star in 2019 after recording 41 tackles and seven interceptions over 16 games. He signed with the Chicago Bears in January 2020 but was waived after suffering a broken foot during the off-season. He rejoined the team in 2021 but was released shortly following the completion of training camp.

Roberson rejoined the Stampeders in October 2021 and recorded nine tackles and one forced fumble over three regular season games. He also started the West Semi-Final against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
