Canadian offensive lineman Carter O’Donnell suffers season-ending injury with Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have placed offensive lineman Carter O’Donnell on injured reserve after he sustained a season-ending injury in training camp.

The 23-year-old signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and has spent the past two seasons on the practice roster, taking practice reps at tackle and guard.

O’Donnell was named a first-team U Sports All-Canadian as a member of the University of Alberta Golden Bears in 2019. He helped the Green and Gold average 399 yards of total offence and 5.2 yards per rush that season, earning an invitation to the prestigious East-West Shrine Game.

The native of Red Deer, Alta. was a third-round pick of the Montreal Alouettes in the 2020 CFL Draft. He would have been selected much higher — possibly first overall — had he not received such significant interest from the NFL.

His CFL rights were traded to the Edmonton Elks in May as part of the deal that sent the first overall pick in the 2022 CFL Draft to Montreal.
