Montreal Alouettes release American DE Antonio Simmons, add first overall CFL Draft pick Tyrell Richards to six-game injured list

The Montreal Alouettes have released American defensive end Antonio Simmons.

The 26-year-old was with Montreal a season ago but was traded to the Elks as part of the Trevor Harris deal. He was released by Edmonton during training camp and promptly returned to the Alouettes, suiting up in three games and recording four tackles,

The Georgia Tech product has played three seasons in the CFL, accumulating 63 defensive tackles, six sacks, and one forced fumble over 30 games. He previously spent time in 2018 with the NFL’s Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The team has also placed 2022 first overall CFL Draft pick Tyrell Richards on the six-game injured list. The Canadian has played in all six games this season and started the past two, recording five defensive tackles and four on special teams.

In more positive news, the Alouettes have removed starting centre Sean Jamieson from the six-game injured list early after he missed the past three contests with a knee injury.
