Defensive back Jalen Collins tweets he’s been released by the Edmonton Elks

Defensive back Jalen Collins appears to have been released by the Edmonton Elks after tweeting the following message on Saturday.

Hate to see it but today I got released today. Thanks to Edmonton for the opportunity! I appreciate all the love from the community and the fans. Goodluck to my guys!!

Collins started all six of Edmonton’s games at cornerback this season and made 12 defensive tackles, one forced fumble, and one touchdown. He was acquired by the Elks alongside offensive tackle Martez Ivey via trade from the Toroto Argonauts in June in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft.

The 29-year-old started five regular season games for the Argos in 2021 and recorded 12 defensive tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. He also started the East Final against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and made three tackles.

Collins was a second-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2015 NFL Draft. He played with the team for three seasons before a two-year run with the Indianapolis Colts and a brief stint in the XFL.
