CFL fines Alouettes’ Darius Williams for high hit on Riders’ Jamal Morrow

The CFL has fined Montreal Alouettes’ defensive back Darius Williams for a high hit on Saskatchewan Roughriders’ running back and return specialist Jamal Morrow. As per league policy, the amount of the fine was not disclosed.

The infraction took place on the first play of the second half when Morrow returned a David Côté kickoff 18 yards before he was tackled by rookie linebacker Zach Lindley. Williams was penalized for roughing on the play, though the league clearly felt further discipline was needed.

Williams is in his first year with the Als after spending the 2021 season as a member of the Edmonton Elks. He has recorded five defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, and two interceptions through three games this season. He started at field-side halfback in Week 2 but has otherwise served in a depth role in the secondary.

Morrow currently leads the league in rushing, carrying the ball 46 times for 257 yards and two touchdowns. He has also caught 11 passes for 115 yards, returned 15 punts for 129 yards, and 11 kickoffs for 234 yards.

Montreal is currently on a bye week, while the Riders are scheduled to play host to the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday night.
