Former CFL all-star Winston Rose returns for Winnipeg following foot injury

Defensive back Winston Rose is back in the starting lineup for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers following a foot injury that held him out of last week’s win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, according to the team’s depth chart.

The 28-year-old started the first two games of the season at boundary cornerback and recorded 15 tackles. He was not listed on the club’s injury report in Week 1 but played in Week 2 despite missing one practice due to an issue with his foot.

Rose struggled at times during the first two games of the season, allowing long completions to Jaelon Acklin and Marco Dubois. His struggles came as a surprise considering he was named a CFL all-star in 2019 before spending the following season as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals.

The six-foot, 174-pound cover man will start at field-side cornerback on Monday in place of veteran Tyquwan Glass, who was released on Thursday. Demerio Houston will start at boundary cornerback where he played well against Steven Dunbar Jr. in Week 3.

Rose has recorded 131 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles, 14 interceptions, and one touchdown over 45 career CFL games as a member of the Ottawa Redblacks, B.C. Lions, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He originally broke into the CFL as a field-side cornerback.

The Blue Bombers (3-0) are scheduled to visit the Toronto Argonauts (1-1) at BMO Field on Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET. Winnipeg native and longtime Blue Bombers’ running back Andrew Harris is expected to be in the lineup for the Argos despite a hamstring injury.
