The Ottawa Redblacks have activated Canadian defensive back Justin Howell from the six-game injured list.

The four-year veteran started Ottawa’s first game of the season at safety and recorded three defensive tackles and one forced fumble in a 19-17 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He beat out a number of competitors for the starting safety job in training camp, including Antoine Pruneau, Ty Cranston, and Alonzo Addae.

Howell was selected in the seventh round of the 2018 CFL Draft out of Carleton University. He has appeared in 41 career CFL games, recording 49 defensive tackles, 25 special teams tackles, three forced fumbles, and one sack.

The club also added American defensive lineman Duke Ejiofor to the practice roster. The six-foot-four, 255-pound pass-rusher was selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. He dressed for 12 games as a rookie, recording nine total tackles, two knockdowns, and one sack.

The Redblacks remain 0-2 following a Week 3 bye and are set to host the B.C. Lions on Thursday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. ET at TD Place Stadium in Ottawa.
