‘We hope it’s not as bad as we are fearful of’: OL Dan Clark carted off during Riders Week 2 win in Edmonton

Veteran offensive lineman Dan Clark was carted off late in the fourth quarter after going down in pain during the Saskatchewan Roughriders Week 2 win in Edmonton.

“It doesn’t look good right now, he got bent over pretty good. We’ll let you know when we know, but it doesn’t look good. I think it’s an ankle, lower leg,” head coach Craig Dickenson said post-game.

Clark was rolled up on from behind and in visible pain as trainers looked at his right leg. He was eventually loaded onto a cart and driven off the field at Commonwealth Stadium with every person in Rider green coming over to support the 34-year-old Regina native.

“It shows you how much respect and love Dan Clark has from his teammates. He’s as good as they get, he’s one of the one-percenters that you get to coach during your life,” Dickenson told 620 CKRM post-game.

“We hope it’s not as bad as we are fearful of. It was great to see the team rally and show their support for Dan because he’s done so much for this team and organization.”

The six-foot-two, 310-pound o-lineman has played his entire CFL career in green and white after joining the team in 2009 as a territorial junior. He was part of the Roughriders 101st Grey Cup championship team in 2013 and earned CFL all-star status in 2019. Since 2012, Clark has suited up in 127 games for Saskatchewan and eight in the postseason.

Canadian offensive lineman Logan Bandy stepped in for Clark at centre.
