Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Duke Williams was limited at practice on Wednesday after suffering an injury to his ankle.

“He turned his ankle at some point during practice,” head coach Craig Dickenson told the media. “I noticed he wasn’t out there during the last team period. We’ll go in and get a better idea of what he did after this but I think he’s going to be alright. I sure hope so.”

The six-foot-three, 225-pound target left the field and returned momentarily before heading back into the locker room for good, according to Rob Vanstone.

“He’s tough as nails. If he can play, he’ll play,” said Dickenson. “He’s a tough guy to keep out.”

The 29-year-old made five receptions for 58 yards in Saskatchewan’s season-opening victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was targeted seven times by franchise quarterback Cody Fajardo, which was the second-most in the game behind Shaq Evans.

The Riders are scheduled to visit the Edmonton Elks on Saturday evening in what will be the club’s first game against Chris Jones since he left his role as Saskatchewan’s head coach and general manager in January 2019 to take a job in the NFL.
