The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed American placekicker Seth Small.

The 22-year-old Small most recently attended mini-camp with the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts (2022). The five-foot-11, 205-pound native of Katy, Texas played 46 games over four seasons at Texas A&M University (2018-2021), converting 71 of 91 field goal attempts (78 per cent) including a career long 52-yard field goal and a 28-yard game-winning field goal against No. 1-ranked Alabama last October. Small left school as the Aggies’ all-time leader with 71 career field goals made and 377 points scored.

The Tiger-Cats have had a kicking battle all throughout training camp, and just yesterday released Canadian placekicker/punter Dante Brown, who the team signed earlier this year.

Small joins a group of kickers that includes Michael Domagala, a holdover from last season who made seven-of-10 field goals (70 per cent) and eight-of-10 extra points (80 per cent) in 2021 and Global newcomer Tadhg Leader, who the team signed this past winter.

Leader is a relative newcomer to pro football with his only gridiron experience coming in 2021 when the Galway, Ireland native played five games with the Aviators of The Spring League, converting four-of-six field goal attempts (66.7 per cent) and six-of-seven convert attempts (85.7 per cent).

The Ticats have been searching for a reliable kicker since Lirim Hajrullahu parlayed his CFL success into multiple opportunities in the NFL.

Josh Smith has been writing about the Ticats and the CFL since 2010 and was sporting his beard way before it was cool. Will be long after, too.
