The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed American offensive lineman Tyrone Riley.

Riley spent seven seasons at North Carolina State University (2015-2021). The six-foot-six, 290-pound native of Savanah, Georgia began his career as a defensive end before transitioning to the offensive side of the ball during his collegiate career.

Riley played in 42 games during his time with the Wolfpack, starting seven of them.

The Ticats suspended American offensive linemen Korren Kirvin and Tyler Johnson ahead of the start of training camp last Thursday and only had two American offensive linemen on the roster prior to signing Riley in holdover Travis Vornkahl and newcomer De’Ondra Wesley.

Vornkahl started three games for the Tabbies last season, including the East Semi-Final, while Wesley spent the 2021 season on the practice roster with the Edmonton Elks.

The Ticats also added veteran Canadian Chris Van Zeyl to the injured list last week. The 2019 Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman has yet to suit up during training camp.

With Hamilton playing their first pre-season game this upcoming Saturday, the team needs all the linemen they can get. The first pre-season game is typically one where the starters do not see a lot of action, so having a large variety of rookies to fill out the roster is a must.

Josh Smith has been writing about the Ticats and the CFL since 2010 and was sporting his beard way before it was cool. Will be long after, too.
