Miami Dolphins sign former Riders’ linebacker Sam Eguavoen to one-year, $2 million extension: report

The Miami Dolphins are re-signing former Saskatchewan Roughriders’ linebacker Sam Eguavoen, according to a report from Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald.

The new deal is a one-year contract worth $2 million USD with $800,000 in guaranteed money.

Eguavoen is entering his fourth season in Miami having appeared in 49 games over the past three years with seven starts. He’s recorded 67 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, two knockdowns, two fumble recoveries, and 16 quarterback hits in the regular season.

The Texas Tech University product went unselected in the 2015 NFL Draft and signed with the Riders the following year. He became a household name over three seasons in Riderville, recording 173 total tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception over three seasons.

The athletic linebacker saw a slight increase in defensive snaps in his third NFL season, but has not been able to reclaim the defensive role he held in 2019. He played all 17 games as a core special teamer in 2021 while recording 16 tackles and recovering one fumble for a touchdown.

Eguavoen has earned over $2.2 million through three seasons with the Dolphins.
